Inspiration and responses |
A painting unit for year 8 (Level 4)
by teacher Kate Christensen of Wycliffe Intermediate School and Rei Hendry,
Massey University arts contract facilitator
In this four-session unit, students create paint-on-paper artworks in response to the fabric artworks of Kay George, and using patterns and shapes derived from nature by a variety of cultures from around the world.
Posters of, and information about, Kay George's work and the approaches to questioning used in this unit are given in the Ministry of Education's resource Fabric and Fibre: Exploring the Visual Arts in Years 1–6 (2001), which is supplied to all schools.
Rei Hendry worked with teacher Kate Christensen of Wycliffe Intermediate School in Napier to develop this unit plan.
